Cold Front Brings Evening Showers After Sweltering Day in Dallas

DALLAS, Aug. 28, 2025 - After another summer scorcher, North Texans watched a late-day cold front roll through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Thursday evening, bringing rain, storms and noticeable relief from the heat.
Daytime Heat and Humidity Thursday’s high climbed to 99°F under cloudy skies, with southwesterly winds gusting near 10 mph and a peak UV index of 11, making it feel like 104°F on exposed skin. Afternoon humidity remained oppressive following a stretch of upper-90s temperatures.
Storm Threat Along the Red River The National Weather Service issued a marginal severe-storm risk north of the Red River, anticipating isolated strong storms capable of gusty winds up to 70 mph and small hail. A slight risk extended into northeastern Dallas County, where heavier cells could produce brief tornadoes in addition to localized flooding from sudden downpours.
Front Passage and Cooler Air By evening, showers and thunderstorms advanced southward into the Metroplex. Radar showed bands of rain weakening over Dallas proper, but heavy rain and gusty winds persisted through midnight. Behind the front, Friday morning will usher in lower humidity and daytime highs reduced to the mid-80s, offering a welcome break from August’s typical heat.
Airport Observations Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport recorded a 4:53 PM METAR reporting 98.1°F, mostly cloudy skies at 25,000 ft, and a light breeze of 5.8 mph immediately ahead of the line of storms.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor furniture and remain weather-aware as the system tapers off overnight. Scattered showers may linger Friday, with better rain chances returning this weekend as the remnants of Pacific Tropical Storm Juliette drift into North Texas.
