Nationwide Recall of Viva Raw Dog Food Announced After Bacterial Contamination Detected

CHARLOTTE, N.C., August 28, 2025 - Viva Raw LLC today voluntarily recalled six frozen pet food products sold under two lot numbers after routine testing by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture uncovered potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects the following products packaged as one-pound vacuum-sealed bricks:

• Lot 21495: Viva Ground Beef for Dogs; Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies
• Lot 21975: Viva Ground Chicken for Dogs; Viva Chunked Chicken for Dogs; Viva Chicken for Cats; Viva Pure Chicken

All lots were distributed directly to consumers nationwide and to select retailers in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, New York and South Carolina between July 21 and August 21, 2025.

Salmonella and Listeria infections in pets can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea) and lethargy, while human exposure symptoms include nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever and, in rare cases, more serious conditions such as endocarditis or septicemia. Pregnant women, young children, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals face heightened risk of severe illness from Listeria.

Consumers are advised to immediately dispose of any recalled product in a sealed container out of reach of children, pets and wildlife. Pet bowls, storage containers and food-preparation surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Anyone who has handled these products should wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. Pet owners whose animals have consumed the affected lots and exhibit symptoms should contact their veterinarian. Individuals experiencing illness after handling the products should consult a healthcare provider.
