Katie Slaton, Cousin of “1000-Lb. Sisters,” Dies at 37

EVANSVILLE, Ind., Aug. 28, 2025 - Katie Slaton, cousin of reality-TV stars Tammy and Amy Slaton, passed away Monday at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville after an eight-month battle with stage 4 gastric adenocarcinoma. She was 37 years old.
According to Amanda Halterman, sister of Tammy and Amy, Katie’s diagnosis came earlier this year when doctors identified an aggressive form of stomach cancer. She underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy, enduring severe symptoms but maintaining her trademark spirit and love for family and friends.
Halterman announced the tragic news on Instagram Tuesday, writing, “It is with a heart and spirit utterly broken that I must share this. My beloved cousin has gone to be with Jesus. She was a vibrant force and offered love that was unconditional and freely given. She brought joy to every gathering and was my closest friend”.
An obituary on the Whitsell Funeral Home website confirmed Katie’s funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, Kentucky, followed by burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Katie first appeared on TLC’s 1000-Lb. Sisters alongside Tammy and Amy in 2020. Beyond her television appearances, she enjoyed fishing, music, and spending time with her partner, Natalie Bailie, and her three children-Landon, Liam, and Lily.
In January, Tammy Slaton launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Katie’s mounting medical expenses, asking fans for prayers and donations. The page raised over $2,000 before Katie’s passing.
Family, friends, and fans have taken to social media to share condolences and celebrate Katie’s fierce spirit. “She was the life of every party and my best friend,” Halterman added, urging continued prayers for loved ones left behind.
