Marlins Rally Past Mets 7-4 in Citi Field Thriller

NEW YORK - The Miami Marlins overcame an early deficit and a midgame tie to defeat the New York Mets 7-4 on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Citi Field, snapping New York’s three-game winning streak.

Miami struck first when catcher Agustín Ramírez delivered a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, scoring Jonathon Marsee and giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead. The Mets answered in the bottom half with a two-run double by Brandon Nimmo that plated Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, putting New York ahead 2-1.

A three-run third inning by Miami regained control. LaMonte Hicks broke through with an RBI groundout to tie it, then scored on an error before Orlando López’s RBI single extended the lead to 4-2.

Pete Alonso tied the game at four in the fifth with his 30th homer of the season, a two-run shot to center off lefty Luke Bachar, knotting the score at 4-4.

Miami broke it open in the seventh. Ramírez’s run-scoring single and López’s infield hit, coupled with a flying-out RBI by Harold Hernández, produced three unearned runs and sent the Marlins ahead 7-4. New York’s defense committed three errors in the frame, all contributing to Miami’s decisive rally.

Starter Anthony Mazur gave the Marlins five solid innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with six strikeouts. Calvin Faucher earned the save, fanning one in a perfect ninth. For the Mets, Luke Bachar took the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) over 2⅔ innings.

Miami improved to 64-71 on the season, while New York slipped to 72-63. The two clubs continue their series Friday night with ace Sandy Alcántara toeing the slab for Miami against Marcus Stroman.
