Cincinnati Coach Scott Satterfield’s Son Triumphs After Devastating Injury

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 28, 2025 - A moving profile published tonight highlights the resilience of Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Scott Satterfield’s son, Bryce Satterfield, who overcame a career-threatening knee injury to continue playing Division I football.

Bryce, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back from Louisville, Kentucky, suffered torn ligaments in his knee during his senior year at Watauga High School. Despite the setback, he finished that season with 388 rushing yards on 43 carries and secured a spot with Western Carolina University, where he has steadily rebuilt his career.

“Each step back onto the field reminded me why I fell in love with this game,” Bryce said in the profile. His determination mirrors the culture-Effort, Attitude, Toughness-that his father has instilled in the Bearcats program.

Scott Satterfield, entering his third season at Cincinnati with an 8-16 record and a 13-season head-coaching ledger of 84-64, watched proudly as his son defied the odds. “Seeing Bryce persevere through that injury reinforced everything we teach about resilience,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Bearcats All-Access, the 30-minute television show giving fans an inside look at UC Athletics, will return for its second season this Saturday on WCPO 9. Scott Satterfield and a member of the football team will appear regularly throughout the season, offering viewers behind-the-scenes access to the coach and his squad.

Tonight in Kansas City, Satterfield’s Bearcats opened their Big 12 campaign against Nebraska. Cincinnati struck first with a 45-yard field goal in the first quarter, and Satterfield’s defense held Nebraska in check through three quarters, leaving the game tied 6-6 at the end of the third. The contest continues on ESPN.
