Star Wars: Starfighter Begins Production with Full Cast Unveiled

Lucasfilm officially kicked off principal photography today on Star Wars: Starfighter, the next standalone chapter in the galaxy far, far away, directed by Shawn Levy. Cameras rolled this morning at a U.K. soundstage, marking the start of production on the film, which is set approximately five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and slated for theatrical release on May 28, 2027.

Amy Adams and Aaron Pierre headline the newly announced additions to the ensemble cast, joining previously confirmed leads Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, and newcomer Flynn Gray. Rounding out the roster are Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings. Lucasfilm described Starfighter as “an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars.”

Expressing his excitement at the launch of filming, director Shawn Levy stated, “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime”.

To commemorate the occasion, Lucasfilm released the first set images, featuring Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray beside a landspeeder reminiscent of Luke Skywalker’s iconic vehicle from A New Hope. Production is slated to continue through the fall in various U.K. locations, with Jonathan Tropper credited as screenwriter and Kathleen Kennedy producing alongside Levy.
