Uvalde Shooting Records Update - August 28 2025

UVALDE, Texas - The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) has continued its phased release of documents related to the May 24, 2022, Robb Elementary School shooting. Today, August 28, 2025, the district published an additional 5,200 pages of emails and internal communications on its public records portal, bringing the total released to more than 35,000 pages since late last week.

By mid-morning, UCISD officials confirmed that the newly uploaded files include:

  • Draft press releases and talking points circulated among district leadership during the week following the shooting.
  • Internal emails between Superintendent Hal Harrell and district attorneys concerning the timing of document disclosures.
  • Correspondence showing the district’s repeated requests for return or copies of hallway video footage from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

During a special meeting held today, UCISD Board President Pat Martinez said the additional records were released “in the spirit of full transparency,” acknowledging the frustrating legal delays caused by an earlier law-firm error. Board members reiterated their commitment to making all district records available by next Wednesday, September 3, as originally promised.

Family members of victims and local advocacy groups have praised the district’s move but stressed that key materials remain withheld by other agencies. Uvalde County officials, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Uvalde Police Department continue to appeal court orders compelling their records’ release. Those records include body-worn camera footage and audio recordings of 911 calls from inside the school.

Local attorney Jesse Rizo, whose niece was among the victims, called today’s release “a step forward” but urged a faster resolution of outstanding legal battles: “Every day these records stay hidden is another day our community can’t fully heal.”

A final batch of nearly 26,000 pages - including promised video files - is slated for publication by UCISD on September 3, assuming no further legal challenges arise. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers and the U.S. Justice Department continue their own reviews of law enforcement’s response to the massacre.
