Self-Proclaimed Taylor Swift Ex Reacts to Singer’s Engagement

August 29, 2025
In a surprise twist to the ongoing Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce engagement frenzy, Andrew “Andy” Slye-who claims to have dated Swift in high school-took to X (formerly Twitter) today to share a throwback photograph and deliver a cheeky commentary on the pop star’s announcement.
Andy Slye, now a wedding filmmaker, posted an image of himself standing beside Swift from their teenage years, captioning it: “That feeling when your girlfriend from high school finally gets engaged. I used to tell myself: Andrew, it’ll be ok. She wasn’t right for you. I just hope her husband isn’t some handsome buff football player.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing tens of thousands of interactions within hours. Several users playfully asked whether Slye would serve as the couple’s wedding photographer; he responded with a tongue-in-cheek budget quip, “She might have a limited budget. We’ll see.”
In follow-up exchanges, Slye credited Swift’s music with helping him meet his wife: “I wouldn’t have hit it off with my wife if it weren’t for Taylor. Taylor was a topic the first time we met. We bonded over the music. Now we film weddings as a husband/wife team. We love to film football weddings (like this ND one).”
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on August 26 with a series of garden-themed photographs, captioning their post, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The announcement has since garnered over 34 million likes on Instagram.
Despite the lack of independent verification regarding Slye’s high school relationship with Swift, his humorous interventions have added an unexpected layer of nostalgia and levity to one of the year’s most talked-about celebrity stories.
