Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to Produce Modern “Wizard of Oz” Series

Los Angeles, Aug. 29, 2025 - Country music star Blake Shelton and his wife, pop sensation Gwen Stefani, have signed on as executive producers for Dorothy, a contemporary, music-driven reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic The Wizard of Oz. The series, being developed for Prime Video by Little Engine Productions and Shelton’s Lucky Horseshoe company, will transpose the iconic Yellow Brick Road journey to present-day Manhattan, using it as a metaphor for the challenges facing young adults today.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Dorothy is described as a “modern twist on a classic,” blending original music, drama, and the heart of Baum’s beloved tale. Gina Matthews, known for producing 13 Going On 30, conceived the project under her Little Engine banner. Shelton remarked that he immediately saw the show’s potential and knew it would resonate with Stefani’s creative vision, adding, “Her creativity and perspective are such a natural fit for this project”.

Stefani expressed her enthusiasm for exploring new storytelling avenues: “It’s a creative and modern take on a classic, and being part of something that blends music, emotion, and the character of Dorothy is inspiring to me”. The series will feature a young adult cast navigating contemporary struggles-friendship, identity, and ambition-while drawing on the timeless message of courage, heart, and home.

Prime Video has yet to announce casting or a production start date, but insiders indicate the show will enter early development this fall, with hopes to premiere in late 2026.
