Brewers Rally in Sixth Inning to Defeat Blue Jays 7-2

TORONTO (AP) - The Milwaukee Brewers snapped a scoreless tie with a five-run outburst in the sixth inning and went on to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Friday at Rogers Centre.

Freddy Peralta dominated through six shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out eight to earn his MLB-leading 16th win of the season. The game remained deadlocked until Andruw Monasterio opened the sixth with a solo home run to left field, giving Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. Brice Turang followed with an RBI single, then Christian Yelich drew a walk before Andrew Vaughn added an RBI single to make it 3-0. Caleb Durbin’s RBI single and Isaac Collins’ two-run double capped the five-run frame, sending Blue Jays starter Shane Bieber to the showers and putting the Brewers firmly in control.

Milwaukee added two more runs in the seventh. Yelich produced an RBI groundout and Vaughn delivered a run-scoring single for a 7-0 advantage. Toronto plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single by Davis Schneider but could not mount a full comeback.

Andrew Vaughn finished with three hits and two RBIs for Milwaukee, while the Brewers improved to 20-8 in August and strengthened their hold on a National League playoff spot. The Blue Jays, who fell to 78-56, will send right-hander Kevin Gausman to the mound Saturday against Brewers’ starter Quinn Priester.
