Major Outage Strikes Call of Duty Servers Across All Platforms

August 29, 2025 - Global Call of Duty players worldwide were unable to access any title in the franchise late on August 28 into the early hours of August 29, as Activision’s online services suffered a widespread outage affecting every game and every platform.

At approximately 7:59 PM PST on August 28, users attempting to launch a Call of Duty title encountered repeated crashes and “Failure to load inventory” errors, abruptly kicking them back to the game’s splash screen or console dashboard. The disruption impacted long-running entries such as Black Ops II on legacy consoles, recent releases like Black Ops 6 and Warzone Mobile, and even recently re-released classics such as Call of Duty: WWII.

Activision’s support account on X posted at 12:23 AM ET on August 29 that the team was investigating “an issue that is preventing players from connecting to Call of Duty services”. A follow-up message an hour later reaffirmed ongoing efforts to restore connectivity, noting that services were “stabilizing” and that monitoring would continue as players reconnected.

By roughly 1:30 AM ET, official channels indicated that server performance had largely returned to normal, with most players able to resume matches across multiplayer, Warzone, and DMZ modes. Activision did not specify the underlying cause of the outage, and no third-party groups claimed responsibility.

Affected players expressed frustration on social media and Reddit, where posts quickly documented the outage’s onset and gradual resolution. Many noted the irony of a major summer season reloaded update looming for Black Ops 6 next week, amplifying concerns over service reliability just before Black Ops 7 marketing ramps up.

As of mid-morning on August 29, no further disruptions have been reported, and Activision has not yet offered any compensation or detailed post-mortem regarding the incident. Players are advised to check the official Activision Support website or X account for the latest status updates.
