“The Conjuring: Last Rites” Delivers Final Farewell for the Warrens

Singapore, August 29, 2025 - The horror saga that began in 2013 with The Conjuring reaches its dramatic conclusion this weekend as audiences prepare for the release of The Conjuring: Last Rites. Director Michael Chaves reunites with franchise leads Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson for what has been billed as the final chapter in the Warrens’ story, based on one of their most infamous real-life cases, the Smurl haunting.

Set against the mid-1980s backdrop of geopolitical unrest-from Chernobyl to Iran-Contra-the film delves deeper into Ed and Lorraine Warren’s personal journey, exploring the emotional toll of their decades-long quest to battle evil. For the first time, their daughter Judy (Mia Tomlinson) steps into the spotlight, grappling with her inherited clairvoyance and forging her own path within the family’s paranormal crusade.

James Wan, creator of the Conjuring Universe and producer of Last Rites, reflected on the bittersweet nature of closing out the mainline series. “For me, Last Rites is pretty much the end of an era and, because of that, it’s somewhat bittersweet,” Wan said. He praised the enduring on- and off-screen chemistry between Farmiga and Wilson, crediting their authentic bond with grounding the supernatural thrills in genuine human emotion.
