Country Eggs LLC Recalls Eggs Amid Multistate Salmonella Outbreak

Aug. 29, 2025
A nationwide recall has been issued on Aug. 27 for large brown cage-free eggs produced by Country Eggs LLC of Lucerne Valley, California, after a salmonella outbreak sickened at least 95 people across 14 states, 18 of whom required hospitalization.
Health officials from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that the contaminated eggs-marketed as “Sunshine Yolks” or “Omega-3 Golden Yolks”-bear the carton code CA 7695 with sell-by dates from July 1 through September 18, 2025. Products were sold under multiple brand names, including Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho and Nijiya Markets, and were distributed in California and Nevada markets and food service outlets.
Investigators traced the outbreak to eggs distributed between June 16 and July 9, with illnesses reported from January 7 to July 25. The CDC cautions that the true number of cases could be higher, given that many infected individuals may not seek medical attention or receive laboratory confirmation.
Consumers are urged not to eat any recalled eggs. Instead, they should discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. The CDC recommends thoroughly washing any kitchen items, utensils or surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled eggs using hot, soapy water or a dishwasher. Individuals experiencing severe symptoms-such as fever above 102°F, bloody diarrhea, prolonged vomiting or signs of dehydration-should seek immediate medical attention.
Food service operators must refrain from using recalled products and should sanitize equipment and surfaces that handled the eggs. Country Eggs LLC has suspended production of the affected products and is cooperating with federal authorities to determine the source of contamination and implement corrective actions.
