Jessica Pegula Cruises into US Open Round of 16 with Straight-Sets Win over Victoria Azarenka

New York, August 29, 2025 - Fourth-seeded American Jessica Pegula continued her impressive run at the 2025 US Open today, dispatching two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, on Arthur Ashe Stadium’s center court.
The match, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. ET, opened with Pegula immediately asserting her authority, breaking Azarenka three times in the first set and claiming it in just 28 minutes. Pegula’s powerful groundstrokes and precise serving left the 36-year-old Azarenka scrambling, as the American recorded 30 winners and lost only seven service points in the opening frame.
Azarenka showed flashes of resilience in the second set-holding four consecutive service games to stay within striking distance-but Pegula’s relentless baseline consistency and aggressive return game ultimately prevailed. A decisive break for 4-3 set up two match points, and Pegula closed out the contest after 1 hour and 15 minutes, converting her third match point with a forehand winner.
With the victory, Pegula advances to the Round of 16, where she will face either American Madison Keys or Germany’s Angelique Kerber. The win marks her sixth consecutive appearance in the fourth round or better at Flushing Meadows and keeps her on course for a potential first Grand Slam title.
