Kyle Neptune Joins Charlotte Hornets’ Coaching Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Former Villanova and Fordham head coach Kyle Neptune has agreed to become an assistant coach on Charles Lee’s staff with the Charlotte Hornets, according to Yardbarker reports published today, August 29, 2025. Neptune, 40, who played collegiate basketball at Lehigh University and began his coaching career as a video coordinator under Jay Wright at Villanova, most recently led the Wildcats for three seasons before his dismissal in March 2025.

Neptune’s appointment reunites him with the NBA ranks after a stint in college basketball that included a 54-47 record at Villanova and an earlier 16-16 campaign at Fordham. Known for his strong emphasis on offensive efficiency and player development, Neptune will focus on supporting Lee in honing the Hornets’ young talent and improving team cohesion.

Charlotte Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak praised the hire, stating, “Kyle’s blend of college coaching experience and teaching ability makes him a valuable addition to our staff as we continue to build around our core young players.”

Neptune joins a coaching roster that includes Lee as lead assistant under head coach Steve Clifford, and will begin his duties immediately as the Hornets enter training camp for the 2025-26 NBA season.
