Ryobi Pressure Washer Recall: Key Developments on August 29, 2025

NEW YORK, Aug. 29, 2025 - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Ryobi’s parent company, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, continued their joint effort today to alert consumers to a major safety recall affecting electric pressure washers sold nationwide.

According to the CPSC, approximately 780,000 Ryobi-branded electric pressure washers-models RY142300 (2300 PSI) and RY142711VNM (2700 PSI)-are being recalled due to a projectile hazard caused by overheating capacitors that can burst and eject fragments at high speed, posing a serious risk of injury.

To date, TTI has received 135 reports of capacitor failures in the U.S., including 41 explosions that resulted in 32 injuries and fractures to consumers’ fingers, hands, face, and eyes; no additional incidents have been reported in Canada. The affected units were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores, as well as online, from July 2017 through June 2024, at prices ranging from $300 to $400.

Consumers in possession of a recalled model are urged to:

1. Stop using the pressure washer immediately.
2. Visit Ryobi’s recall website (https://www.ryobitools.com/recall) or call TTI Outdoor Power Equipment toll-free at 800-597-9624 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday).
3. Obtain a free repair kit, which includes a replacement capacitor and installation instructions; proof of purchase is not required.

Federal law prohibits the sale of recalled products, and retailers have been instructed to remove all affected units from store shelves. Consumers should check the data plate on the side of the motor housing to confirm whether their unit falls within the recalled serial number ranges.
