Ryobi Pressure Washers Recalled After Explosion Hazard

Los Angeles, August 29, 2025 - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with TTI Outdoor Power Equipment, announced today the recall of approximately 780,000 Ryobi electric pressure washers sold in the United States and Canada due to a risk of capacitor overheating and explosion.

According to the CPSC, the affected models - RY142300 (2300 PSI) and RY142711VNM (2700 PSI) - were sold at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores, as well as online, between July 2017 and June 2024. The defect involves capacitors that can overheat and burst, ejecting parts forcefully and posing a serious impact injury hazard to users and bystanders.

To date, the company has received 135 reports of overheating capacitors, including 41 explosions that have resulted in 32 injuries, such as fractures to fingers, hands, faces, and eyes. No injuries have been reported in Canada, where about 16,000 units were sold; the remaining 764,000 units were sold in the U.S..

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled pressure washers and contact TTI Outdoor Power Equipment for a free repair kit, which includes a replacement capacitor and installation instructions. Proof of purchase is not required. To determine whether a unit is affected, owners can visit https://www.ryobitools.com/recall or call TTI toll-free at 800-597-9624, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

This recall follows earlier alerts from the same manufacturer for Ryobi mowers and hedge trimmers due to fire and laceration risks. The CPSC reminds consumers that federal law prohibits the sale or redistribution of recalled products.
