Caitlyn Jenner Opens Up on the Death of Sophia Hutchins

Los Angeles, August 29, 2025 - During an appearance on Fox News at Night, Caitlyn Jenner, 75, spoke publicly for the first time about the tragic passing of her close friend and former manager, Sophia Hutchins, who died in an ATV accident on July 2 at the age of 29. “Recently, my dear friend Sophia passed away in a heartbreaking incident,” Jenner said, her voice wavering. “For the past seven weeks, I have been grappling with grief, and it’s incredibly challenging”.

Jenner went on to draw parallels between her own sorrow and the grief of families affected by recent acts of violence. Referring to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on August 27, which claimed the lives of two children and injured many others, she remarked, “Here I am dealing with my grief, and I can’t even imagine parents who dropped their child off at school, only to hear, ‘I will never get a chance to talk to him again.’ That is just so horrible. These families have a long road ahead of them”.

Hutchins, who had managed Jenner’s affairs since 2017 and appeared alongside her on the E! docuseries I Am Cait, lost control of her ATV near Jenner’s Malibu residence. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, the accident was ruled due to multiple blunt force injuries after her vehicle struck the rear of a sedan and tumbled 350 feet down a ravine. Sheriff’s Sergeant Eduardo Saucedo noted that Hutchins “may have been speeding and rear-ended the car, which caused her to veer off the cliff”.

The pair’s relationship, often the subject of tabloid speculation, was strictly platonic. In a 2021 interview with People, Hutchins described Jenner as a “parental, familial” figure, saying, “I feel so blessed and humbled to be part of such an amazing family, and she treats me like a daughter”.

Jenner has set aside further comments as she continues to process her loss, focusing instead on sending her “prayers and blessings” to all who are grieving this week.
