Trump’s Health Under Spotlight: White House Confirms Diagnosis, VP Vance Reassures Nation

August 29, 2025
In a day marked by renewed scrutiny of President Donald Trump’s physical well-being, the White House acknowledged a medical condition and the vice president stepped forward to affirm the president’s overall health.
White House Confirms Chronic Venous Insufficiency Today, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt disclosed that President Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a vascular disorder common among older adults in which blood flow from the legs to the heart is impaired. The condition was identified following reports of unexplained bruising on the president’s hand and intermittent swelling in his ankles. According to the note from Dr. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s personal physician, diagnostic vascular studies ruled out deep-vein thrombosis, arterial disease, heart failure, and renal impairment, describing CVI as “benign and common” in individuals over 70. The White House attributed the hand bruising separately to “minor soft-tissue irritation” from frequent handshakes and the president’s daily aspirin regimen, but did not disclose specific treatment measures for his CVI.
Vice President Vance Declares Trump in “Good Shape” In a separate interview published today, Vice President J.D. Vance told USA Today that President Trump is in “exceptionally good health,” highlighting the commander-in-chief’s energy and work ethic. Vance noted that the 79-year-old president remains “the last person to stop making calls at night and the first to start in the morning” and affirmed his own readiness to assume presidential duties if ever needed. “If, heaven forbid, a significant tragedy were to happen, I can’t imagine better real-world experience than what I’ve received over the past 200 days,” Vance said, underscoring his confidence in Trump’s capacity to complete his term.
Background and Public Reaction Questions about President Trump’s health first intensified earlier this year when images of a persistent bruise on his right hand circulated online. The bruise was initially blamed on enthusiastic supporters during campaign handshakes, but concerns deepened when swelling in his ankles became evident. While the White House has portrayed the CVI diagnosis as non-life-threatening, observers continue to call for greater transparency regarding the president’s medical care and any impacts on his ability to govern.
As CVI can involve symptoms such as leg pain, heaviness, and swelling, medical experts generally recommend lifestyle adjustments, compression therapy, and, in some cases, medication or procedural interventions. It remains unclear which, if any, of these treatments President Trump is undertaking.
Despite the scrutiny, White House officials maintain that Trump’s daily activities and presidential duties have not been altered and that he continues to fulfill his responsibilities without restriction.
