Alabama Kicks Off 2025 Football Schedule with Road Opener Against Florida State

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Aug. 30, 2025 - The University of Alabama Crimson Tide officially opened their 2025 football campaign today, traveling to Tallahassee to face the Florida State Seminoles. The matchup marked the Tide’s first nonconference road opener since 2000 and the first meeting with Florida State since 2017.

Alabama, ranked No. 8 to begin the season, took the field at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC. Under second-year coach Kalen DeBoer, the Tide debuted new starting quarterback Ty Simpson, who has patiently waited three seasons for the role.

The 2025 schedule features a challenging slate of conference and nonconference opponents. After today’s opener at Florida State, Alabama will return home for nonconference meetings with Louisiana-Monroe (Sept. 6) and Wisconsin (Sept. 13), before launching into Southeastern Conference play against Georgia on Sept. 27. Key dates on the SEC schedule include home tilts against Tennessee (Oct. 18), LSU (Nov. 8), and Oklahoma (Nov. 15), and the season finale at Auburn on Nov. 29.

Kickoff windows and television assignments for the final nine regular-season games were announced in June. Alabama’s home contest against LSU will occupy the “Night” window (5-7 p.m. CT), while most other games are designated “Flex,” allowing the SEC and ESPN to select either afternoon (2:30-3:30 p.m. CT) or night windows based on matchups and audience interest.

Today’s opener against Florida State not only launched the Crimson Tide’s quest for a second consecutive College Football Playoff berth but also underscored the program’s national prominence by beginning the season on the road against a Power Five opponent for just the fourth time under DeBoer.
