Gordon Ramsay Reveals Skin Cancer Diagnosis, Urges Fans to Wear Sunscreen

August 30, 2025 - Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay announced on Saturday that he has been diagnosed with and treated for basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.
In an Instagram post, the 58-year-old restaurateur shared photos of a bandage covering the side of his face and a line of stitches extending from his earlobe to the base of his neck. He thanked the medical team at The Skin Associates for their “fast reactive work” in excising the carcinoma and reminded his followers, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a facelift! I’d need a refund.”
Basal cell carcinoma arises in the basal cells responsible for generating new skin cells and most often appears on sun-exposed areas such as the head and neck. According to the Mayo Clinic, long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation is the primary risk factor for this type of skin cancer, which typically presents as a translucent bump or scaly patch and grows slowly over time.
Ramsay, known for hit television series including Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and MasterChef, emphasized the importance of sun protection amid the Labor Day weekend. The Michelin-starred chef oversees more than 80 restaurants worldwide and recently launched Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service on Fox this May.
Messages of support poured in on social media, including a comment from his daughter Holly simply stating, “Love you dad,” and encouraging notes from Cancer Research UK and fans thanking Ramsay for raising awareness of sun safety.
Ramsay’s disclosure follows a public health scare in 2024 when he urged fans to wear helmets after a cycling accident. His candid updates continue to highlight personal well-being and preventive health measures to his global audience.
