Old Dominion University Athletics Launches 2025 Season on the Road

Saturday, August 30, 2025 - Norfolk, VA

Old Dominion University’s Monarchs kicked off their 2025 football campaign with the first-ever meeting against the Indiana Hoosiers today at Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana. Sixth-year head coach Ricky Rahne led ODU onto the field at 2:30 p.m. ET for the season opener, marking a historic debut matchup between the two programs.

The Monarchs, picked fifth in the Sun Belt East Division in the 2025 preseason coaches poll, return five All-Sun Belt selections from last year and hope to secure their first winning season under Rahne’s leadership. Following today’s contest, ODU’s non-conference schedule includes home dates versus North Carolina Central on September 6 and Liberty on September 27, as well as a road trip to Virginia Tech on September 13.

Back on campus, Whitehurst Hall hosted an official watch party for students and fans from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT in support of the Monarchs’ trip to Indiana. The free event offered a spirited game-day atmosphere and live broadcast viewing for the ODU community.

Next up for Old Dominion, the Monarchs will return to Norfolk for their home opener against North Carolina Central on Saturday, September 6, at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
