INDIA AWARDS 2,400 MW COAL POWER CONTRACTS The central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh has awarded contracts to Adani Power and Torrent Power to build a combined 2,400 megawatts of new coal-fired power capacity. Adani Power will construct 1,200 MW at its existing plant in Khandwa district, while Torrent Power will develop an equal capacity unit at its facility in Gwalior district. Both companies expect to commission the new units by late 2028 to meet rising regional electricity demand.

VIRGINIA TECH TO UNDERTAKE PLANNED POWER OUTAGE Virginia Tech’s Division of Facilities announced a scheduled outage at Cassell Coliseum on the Blacksburg campus today from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT to accommodate electrical upgrades for new video scoreboards. Backup generators will maintain critical systems, and building occupants were advised to power down sensitive equipment in advance. No impact is expected on adjacent athletic and performance centers.

BENGALURU ELECTRICITY OUTAGE ALERT Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) confirmed rolling power cuts across several Bengaluru suburbs today and tomorrow, August 30-31, to facilitate maintenance on aging distribution transformers. Residents in neighborhoods including Yelahanka, Banashankari, and Marathahalli were notified of scheduled interruptions lasting up to four hours, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time. BESCOM has provided alternative supply arrangements and emergency contact numbers for critical services.

MACEDONIA CLOSES PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON RENEWABLE ENERGY LAW North Macedonia’s Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources closed its public consultation period today for a draft law on renewable energy. The legislation, aligned with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive III, introduces a two-way contract-for-difference mechanism to stabilize returns for green projects, formalizes net-metering and net-billing frameworks, and sets clearer guidelines for renewable energy communities.
