Powerball Jackpot Surges to $1 Billion Ahead of Saturday Night Drawing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 30, 2025 - The Powerball® jackpot climbed to an estimated $1 billion for tonight’s drawing, marking the sixth time in the game’s 33-year history that the top prize has reached the billion-dollar threshold. The announcement came this morning after national ticket sales data prompted game officials to raise the advertised jackpot from $950 million to $1 billion, with a cash-value option of approximately $453.1 million before taxes.

Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn remarked, “We’re bringing extra excitement to Labor Day Weekend with a Powerball jackpot that’s climbed to a billion dollars! For just $2, every ticket is a chance to win big, while also giving back to public programs and services that benefit communities wherever Powerball is played.”

Tonight’s drawing-broadcast live at 10:59 p.m. ET from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee and streamed on Powerball.com-will be the 39th since the jackpot was last hit May 31, 2025, in California. The recent 39-drawing streak has already yielded 62 tickets winning $1 million or more and 608 tickets winning $50,000 or more.

Winners will choose between a 30-year annuity totaling $1 billion (paid as one immediate lump-sum payment followed by 29 annual payments increasing 5 percent each year) or the one-time cash option estimated at $453.1 million, both before taxes. The overall odds of winning the jackpot stand at 1 in 292.2 million, with any ticket guaranteeing some prize level at odds of 1 in 24.9.

Powerball® tickets are $2 per play and sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Since its inception in 1992, Powerball has generated more than $36 billion for state-supported initiatives across the United States.
