Taste of Madison 2025 Kicks Off on Capitol Square

Madison, WI - August 30, 2025 Today at 2:00 PM, the annual Taste of Madison roared to life on the Capitol Square, officially launching the largest picnic in the city for Labor Day weekend.
Crowds and Culinary Delights More than 80 food vendors set up along the square, offering everything from gourmet sliders and duck-fat fries to international specialties. Attendees began lining up as gates opened, eager to sample small-plate tastings priced between $4 and $8. All proceeds from food sales go directly to the individual vendors, while beverage purchases support local nonprofit volunteers staffing the drink stands. The event has donated over $90,000 annually to community charities in recent years.
Live Music and Family Fun Three stages dot the Capitol Square, featuring local acts throughout the afternoon and evening. Headliners Pop Evil, Preston Cooper, and Take Back the Crown are scheduled to perform on the Mainstage tonight, with continuous family-friendly programming-including a “Playtopia” zone of games and activities-running through Sunday evening.
Logistics and Road Closures Road closures around the Capitol Square went into effect this morning to accommodate pedestrian traffic and vendor infrastructure. East and West Mifflin Streets, North and South Pinckney Streets, and the surrounding blocks of Main and Carroll Streets are closed through Sunday night. Motorists and Madison Metro riders are advised to plan alternate routes.
