President Trump Defends Tariffs on Truth Social, Vows Supreme Court Appeal

Washington, D.C., August 30, 2025 - President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform today to lash out at a U.S. Court of Appeals ruling that declared most of his global tariffs illegal, insisting that “ALL TARIFFS ARE STILL IN EFFECT!” and pledging to continue the fight at the Supreme Court.

In a post timed to coincide with the start of the Labor Day weekend, Trump denounced the 7-4 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit as “incorrect” and warned that removing the levies would “destroy America.” He argued that tariffs are essential tools to protect U.S. workers and industries, counter trade deficits, and ensure that “Made in America” companies thrive. Without them, he claimed, the country would be left “financially weak,” a scenario he deemed unacceptable.

Trump’s Truth Social statement echoed his broader defense of the levies under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which he invoked earlier this year to impose reciprocal tariffs on dozens of trading partners. He reaffirmed his belief that only the Supreme Court can ultimately vindicate his trade policy, writing that the high court’s intervention would “Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again!”.

The appeals court had ruled that the statute granting the president emergency economic powers does not explicitly authorize broad tariff actions, effectively undermining one of Trump’s cornerstone economic strategies. However, the court allowed the tariffs to remain in place until mid-October to give the administration time to appeal and seek a definitive resolution from the Supreme Court.
