SALT LAKE CITY - John Shin, a 37-year-old violinist who has performed with the Utah Symphony, remains detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a facility more than 500 miles from his home after being arrested earlier this week. Shin’s wife, DaNae, received a brief phone call on her birthday during which he said, “Honey, I don’t have much time. I’ve been arrested by ICE and they’re sending me to a detention center. I love you and the kids; I will be okay, please call our attorney.” Shin’s family has faced financial hardship that delayed his green card application, and local musicians have begun daily performances at the State Capitol to demand his release.

WEST JORDAN - The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced today the completion of its “mill and fill” asphalt replacement project on 9000 South between Redwood Road and Bangerter Highway. The work, which began in May, included replacing road surfaces, upgrading ADA pedestrian ramps, and installing buffered bicycle lanes on both sides of the corridor. With the project now concluded, on-street parking has been removed and travel lanes restored; motorists can expect fully reopened roads starting this evening.
