Major Verizon Outage Disrupts Service Nationwide on August 30, 2025

NEW YORK, August 30, 2025 - Verizon experienced a widespread network outage Friday afternoon that left tens of thousands of customers unable to make calls, send texts, or access mobile data and home Internet services.
The disruption first emerged shortly after midday Eastern Time, with users reporting complete loss of service or devices switching to “SOS mode.” Outage monitoring platform Downdetector recorded more than 10,000 user complaints by 2:30 p.m. EDT, with hotspots in New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Chicago. By late afternoon, reports had surged to over 23,500 nationwide, affecting both cellular connectivity and fiber-optic home Internet, including Frontier customers on Verizon’s network.
Customers across multiple states-from Florida and Georgia to California-posted on social media and community forums that their phones showed “No Service” or “SOS only,” despite being in previously reliable coverage areas. In South Florida, some users noted that older devices retained signal while newer models went offline around 1 p.m. EST.
Verizon’s official support channels acknowledged an “issue affecting service for some of our customers,” advising users to restart devices and, where possible, switch to Wi-Fi calling. No cause or estimated time for full restoration has been provided. Store employees reportedly told some customers that service might return within 12 hours.
As of evening, intermittent connectivity began to return in certain regions, but Verizon has yet to confirm whether the outage is fully resolved. Users are encouraged to monitor the carrier’s network status page and utilize alternative communication methods until service stability is restored.
