August 31, 2025 - No New Developments in Abbey Gate Bombing Case

WASHINGTON, D.C. - There were no reported developments today, August 31, 2025, in the ongoing legal and investigative proceedings related to the August 26, 2021, suicide bombing at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, which killed 13 U.S. service members and more than 160 Afghan civilians. Federal authorities have not announced any additional court hearings, charges or evidence disclosures concerning the principal suspect, Mohammad Sharifullah, who was extradited to the United States earlier this year and remains in federal custody in Alexandria, Virginia. His next scheduled detention hearing is set for Monday, September 1, 2025.
