Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed that he underwent treatment to remove a form of skin cancer, using his experience to remind the public of the importance of sun protection.

In a post shared on Instagram on August 30, Ramsay, 58, disclosed that doctors had excised a basal cell carcinoma-a non-melanoma skin cancer-from just beneath his ear. He expressed his gratitude to the medical team at The Skin Associates for their “fast, reactive work” in performing the procedure and ensuring a swift recovery.

“Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast-reactive work on removing this basal cell carcinoma, thank you,” Ramsay wrote alongside photographs of the bandage under his ear. He added with characteristic humor, “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a facelift. I’d need a refund.” His message resonated with fans and health organizations alike, as Cancer Research UK and others praised him for using his platform to highlight sun safety.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer, most frequently arising on areas regularly exposed to ultraviolet radiation, such as the face and neck. While it rarely metastasizes, early detection and removal are essential to prevent local tissue damage. Health experts recommend routine skin checks, broad-spectrum sunscreen application, protective clothing, and seeking shade during peak sun hours to reduce risk.
