Hersheypark Monorail Safety Incident and Labor Day Weekend Events

HERSHEY, Pa. - Today, Sunday August 31, 2025, Hersheypark concluded the final day of its Labor Day weekend festivities amid reflections on a safety incident over the weekend.

A 9-year-old boy, separated from his parents Saturday afternoon, was discovered walking on the closed monorail tracks at the park’s station. The child entered the restricted area around 5:05 p.m., remaining on the tracks for approximately 20 minutes before a bystander and park personnel guided him to safety and reunited him with his family at 5:28 p.m. The boy was uninjured, and Hersheypark officials confirmed that all safety protocols were in place and followed during the response.

“We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark,” the park said in a statement.

Meanwhile, guests enjoyed the last full day of summer attractions, including an art exhibition by the Hershey Area Art Association in the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory, which runs through today. The weekend lineup also featured more than 70 rides, the Boardwalk water park, ZooAmerica animal encounters, and special resort packages at The Hotel Hershey and Hershey Lodge.

As of Monday, September 1, The Boardwalk at Hersheypark and the outdoor resort pools will close for the season, marking the end of daily summer operations before the park transitions to fall events.
