Illinois Lottery News - August 31, 2025

CHICAGO - The Illinois Lottery saw another high-stakes moment on Sunday as the Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.1 billion for Monday’s Labor Day drawing, marking the game’s fifth-largest prize in history. With no ticket matching all six numbers drawn on Saturday, the grand prize now offers a lump-sum cash option of approximately $498.4 million before taxes.
Despite the jackpot roll, Illinois players still found success in the Aug. 30 drawing: one ticket sold in the state matched all five white balls to claim a $1 million prize, joining eight other million-dollar winners nationwide. Additionally, Illinois residents who added the Power Play® option to their tickets had the chance to double lower-tier cash prizes in Saturday’s drawing.
Monday night’s Powerball drawing will take place at 10:59 p.m. ET. Tickets are $2 per play, and players must purchase them before 9:00 p.m. CT at participating retailers for a chance at the $1.1 billion jackpot. All proceeds from Powerball ticket sales support Illinois public education and other state causes.
