John Fogerty Reflects on Reclaiming His Legacy in Exclusive August 31 Interview

In an interview published today, August 31, 2025, with Spanish daily El País, rock veteran John Fogerty opened up about the emotional journey behind his newly released album Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years and the joy of performing his classic hits with family by his side.

Fogerty, 80, spoke from a London hotel, moments after greeting his granddaughters, underscoring how personal this period has become. He described Legacy as “a celebration” of reclaiming the publishing rights to his Creedence Clearwater Revival songs-a legal victory decades in the making-and emphasized the pride he feels performing them anew alongside his sons, Shane and Tyler Fogerty.

“I love music. I feel good when I play and it makes me feel good when I see people happy,” he said, explaining that revisiting these songs with loved ones has been “a wonderful feeling”. Fogerty also reflected on the tumultuous history of CCR’s breakup and subsequent legal battles over song ownership, calling the outcome “a rare moment where the artist wins.”

The album, released August 22 via Concord Records, features 20 re-recorded CCR classics. Fogerty co-produced it with his son Shane, enlisting longtime collaborators such as Matt Chamberlain and Bob Glaub-musicians who may also comprise his backing band on the road.

Fogerty’s remarks arrive on the eve of the European leg of his fall tour, which kicked off in late June and continues through autumn, with dates set in major cities including London, Paris and Berlin. The U.K. shows were met with standing ovations, with fans praising his undiminished vocal power and spirited performances of “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising” and “Bad Moon Rising,” among others.

As he prepares to return to North America for The Legacy Tour this October and November, Fogerty remains invigorated by the artistic freedom of performing on his own terms and sharing his life’s work with both longtime fans and younger audiences discovering Creedence’s timeless catalog.
