Rudy Giuliani Seriously Injured in New Hampshire Car Crash After Aiding Domestic-Violence Victim

Manchester, NH - Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, 81, was hospitalized Sunday evening after his rental vehicle was struck from behind at high speed on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire, his spokesperson confirmed. Giuliani sustained a fractured vertebra, cuts, and bruises while assisting a woman who flagged him down seeking help as a domestic-violence victim.
According to Giuliani’s head of security, Michael Ragusa, the collision occurred shortly after Giuliani had provided aid and called 911. He remained at the scene until law enforcement arrived. Ragusa said Giuliani is in “good spirits and recovering tremendously” at a hospital near Manchester, where he is expected to remain under observation for two to three days before transitioning to outpatient care with a brace for his back injury.
Giuliani’s injuries include:
- Fractured vertebra in his lower back
- Lacerations and bruising on his left arm and lower leg
- Ongoing evaluation for any additional internal injuries
Maria Ryan, Giuliani’s business partner and a registered nurse, is overseeing his medical treatment. Ragusa emphasized that Giuliani’s condition is stable and that he is “feeling optimistic” despite the severity of the crash.
The incident marks the latest chapter in Giuliani’s post-mayoral years, which have included high-profile legal battles and public controversies. He served as New York City’s mayor from 1994 to 2001 and later as personal attorney to former President Donald Trump. No other vehicles were reported damaged, and New Hampshire State Police are investigating the crash to determine fault and whether speed or impairment played a role. Emergency responders praised Giuliani for remaining calm and ensuring the safety of the woman he had assisted before the collision.
