U.S. Small Business Administration News Brief - August 31, 2025

Washington, D.C., August 31, 2025 - Today marks the expiration of the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) approval for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) information collection, in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act. Although PPP lending authority ended in June 2021, the SBA continues to rely on this collection to process loan forgiveness applications, conduct post-approval reviews, and comply with ongoing litigation.

To maintain these critical functions, the SBA has announced plans to submit a request to OMB for a renewal of the expired collection, ensuring uninterrupted support for PPP borrowers seeking loan forgiveness and facilitating lender compliance with extended record-retention requirements under Executive Order 14168.
