President Trump Condemns Israeli Strike on Gaza’s Nasser Hospital

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31, 2025 - President Donald Trump today publicly expressed displeasure over an Israeli military strike on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, that killed at least 22 civilians, including five journalists. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said, “I’m not happy about it. I don’t want to see these kinds of attacks,” and added that he had not been informed in advance of the assault.
The hospital, the largest medical facility in southern Gaza, was struck twice in a “double-tap” attack on Aug. 25, ending the lives of medical staff, patients and reporters who had rushed to assist after the first blast. Among the journalists killed were veterans from Reuters, the Associated Press, Al Jazeera and Middle East Eye.
The Israeli military initially claimed the operation targeted a Hamas observation post disguised as a camera on the hospital campus. After international outcry, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged the deaths of civilians and journalists, calling the incident a “tragic mishap” and ordering a formal inquiry into the decision-making and rules of engagement that led to the shelling.
In his remarks today, President Trump reiterated the urgency of ending the broader conflict in Gaza, saying, “We have to finish this nightmare,” referencing his earlier promise that the war would conclude within weeks. He also noted his role in negotiating the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza but stressed that further action is required to protect civilians and medical facilities under international humanitarian law.
International reaction to the hospital strikes has been swift: the United Nations demanded a “prompt and impartial investigation,” while press freedom organizations condemned the killing of journalists as a direct assault on independent reporting. President Trump’s condemnation today adds to mounting pressure on Israel to reassess its tactics and ensure the safety of noncombatants in the war-ravaged territory.
