Angels Shut Out Astros 3-0 Behind Soriano’s Two-Hitter

Los Angeles, September 1, 2025 - The Los Angeles Angels blanked the Houston Astros 3-0 at Daikin Park on Monday, as José Soriano’s stellar outing and Oswald Peraza’s solo homer powered the Angels to a series-clinching victory in the four-game set.
José Soriano dominated the Astros lineup with seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight while issuing three walks in a masterful two-hitter. In the fifth inning, Peraza crushed a 384-foot solo shot to right-center, giving Los Angeles a 1-0 lead and marking his first homer since his midseason trade from the Yankees.
The Angels extended their advantage in the eighth inning when Mike Trout delivered an RBI double to center, scoring Yoán Moncada and chasing Astros starter Framber Valdez from the game. Later in the frame, Luis Rengifo’s infield single plated Trout with the third run, as an errant throw by pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. allowed the Angels’ second run of the inning.
Following Soriano’s departure, Luis García and closer Kenley Jansen combined for two hitless innings of relief to preserve the shutout. García logged one scoreless frame with two strikeouts, while Jansen worked a perfect ninth to seal the win.
The victory lifts the Angels to 65-72 on the season, while the Astros fall to 75-63 and drop their AL West lead to one game over Seattle. The teams will reconvene Tuesday for the opener of a new road trip for Los Angeles.
