Athletics Snap Skid with 11-3 Victory over Cardinals

ST. LOUIS (Sept. 1, 2025) - The Oakland Athletics erupted for five runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an 11-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, snapping a three-game losing streak at Busch Stadium.

Offensive Outburst Oakland broke the game open in the fourth. JJ Bleday belted a two-run homer to right field, his first of two on the day, and Zack Gelof followed with a solo shot to extend the lead to 3-0. After St. Louis got on the board with Iván Herrera’s leadoff blast in the bottom half, Brent Rooker delivered a two-run double and Bleday added his second homer of the game in the sixth to cap the scoring barrage. Athletics hitters collected nine hits, including three from third baseman Zack Gelof, who finished 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI.

Pitching Performance Rookie Luis Morales (3-0) turned in a career-high eight strikeouts over 5⅔ innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk. It marked his first outing with multiple runs allowed, but he maintained a 1.59 ERA and kept St. Louis off balance for much of the afternoon.

Sonny Gray (12-8) suffered the loss for the Cardinals, surrendering seven runs (all earned) on ten hits and three walks over 6⅓ innings.
