Costco Warehouses Closed Nationwide for Labor Day 2025

Washington, D.C., September 1, 2025 - In observance of Labor Day, Costco Wholesale closed all 634 of its U.S. warehouse locations today, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to providing employees with time off on major federal holidays.
Costco’s decision to shutter physical stores on Labor Day aligns with its policy of observing seven key U.S. holidays annually, including New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. While warehouse doors remain closed, Costco’s e-commerce platform continues to operate, though customers may experience minor delays in order processing and delivery due to holiday staffing adjustments.
Most Costco warehouses have remained closed throughout the day, giving members no opportunity for last-minute in-store purchases of barbecue staples, bakery desserts or bulk party supplies. Shoppers were encouraged to plan ahead and visit on Sunday, August 31, when regular hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. prevailed, with Executive Members admitted beginning at 9 a.m..
In contrast, many other major retailers-including Walmart, Target and Kroger-maintained regular or modified holiday hours to serve consumers over the long weekend. International Costco locations, notably in Mexico, operated under their standard schedules and were unaffected by the U.S. closure.
Costco warehouses will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, September 2, resuming access to bulk groceries, fuel stations and in-store services. This temporary closure underscores the retailer’s emphasis on employee welfare and work-life balance, even at the cost of foregoing one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
