Costco Closed Nationwide on Labor Day 2025

HONOLULU, Sept. 1, 2025 - In observance of Labor Day, Costco Wholesale announced that all of its 634 U.S. warehouses will remain closed today, Monday, September 1, marking one of seven major federal holidays observed by the retailer.
Costco’s decision aligns with its longstanding tradition of granting employees time off on significant national holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, underscoring the company’s commitment to work-life balance.
According to Costco’s official holiday calendar, regular business hours will resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2. While many grocery and retail chains remain open to serve Labor Day shoppers, Costco’s closure leaves bulk-goods customers planning ahead or visiting alternative stores such as Walmart or Kroger, which are operating under standard hours.
Labor Day, observed on the first Monday of September, honors American workers’ contributions to the nation’s strength and prosperity. The holiday’s origins date back to the 1880s, culminating in its establishment as a federal holiday by Congress on June 28, 1894.
Shoppers seeking holiday groceries or supplies on Labor Day can turn to other major retailers and grocery chains, but must wait until Tuesday to stock up at Costco.
