Marlon Wayans Finally Receives Long-Overdue High School Diploma

New York City, September 1, 2025 - After more than three decades, actor and comedian Marlon Wayans officially received his high school diploma today from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan.

Wayans, 52, returned to his alma mater this morning to film a segment for CBS, marking both a career milestone and a personal triumph. School administrators discovered during the interview that, despite completing all graduation requirements in 1990, Wayans had never actually been handed the physical diploma.

“Just got my LAG diploma… 35 years later,” Wayans wrote on Instagram as he proudly held up the certificate. The actor spent the ceremony reminiscing about his time at the prestigious performing arts school before launching a flourishing career in film and television, including hits like Scary Movie, White Chicks, and his stand-up special Good Grief.

Following the presentation, Wayans reflected on his educational journey: after one year at Howard University, he left to pursue acting full time-following in the footsteps of his elder brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans. His big break came in 1992’s Mo’ Money alongside Damon Wayans, which led to his co-creation of The Wayans Bros. and later appearances on In Living Color and numerous blockbuster comedies.

LaGuardia’s principal noted that the ceremony served as inspiration for current students: “Marlon’s journey reminds us that it’s never too late to celebrate academic achievement.” The school plans to feature Wayans’ story in its upcoming alumni showcase.
