Mets Edge Tigers 10-8 in Thrilling Comeback at Comerica Park

Detroit, MI - The New York Mets rallied behind Juan Soto’s career-tying six RBIs to defeat the Detroit Tigers 10-8 on Monday, September 1, 2025, in a back-and-forth affair at Comerica Park.
In the top of the first inning, Jahmai Jones gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead with a leadoff solo homer to left off Mets starter Sean Manaea. Detroit extended its advantage to 3-2 in the third when Wenceel Pérez launched a two-run shot to left, plating Zach McKinstry.
The Mets responded explosively in the fourth. After loading the bases with no outs, Juan Soto launched his 36th homer of the season-a grand slam to right-center-putting New York ahead 6-3. Detroit battled back in its half of the fourth, cutting the deficit to 6-5 on a Zach McKinstry RBI triple and a Jahmai Jones single.
Tied 6-6 in the fifth, the Tigers capitalized on a wild pitch by Ryne Stanek to knot the game again. But Soto wasn’t finished. In the sixth inning, he ripped a two-run triple with two outs, restoring a lead at 8-6, and later scored on a Brandon Nimmo single to make it 9-6.
Luis Torrens added offensive support with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in two runs, while Nimmo contributed an RBI single in the sixth. The Mets tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Brett Baty grounded out, scoring Luis Acuña, who pinch-ran and stole second earlier in the inning.
Detroit threatened late, scoring in the seventh and eighth innings to pull within 10-8, but Edwin Díaz slammed the door, retiring the side in the eighth and ninth to secure the save.
