Orioles Edge Padres 4-3 as Jason Adam Exits with Leg Injury

SAN DIEGO - In a dramatic showdown Monday night at Petco Park, the Baltimore Orioles snapped a seventh-inning tie with a go-ahead RBI single and held on to beat the San Diego Padres 4-3.
The game’s turning point came just moments after All-Star reliever Jason Adam collapsed on the mound, clutching his left knee after fielding a grounder. Adam, who entered the contest with an 8-4 record, was helped off on a cart after reportedly feeling a “pop” in his knee while pivoting toward the ball. Robert Suarez took over for Adam and struck out the first batter he faced, but surrendered the decisive hit one batter later.
With two outs in the seventh inning, Dylan Beavers lined a single to right field off Suarez, driving home Jeremiah Jackson from second base for the 4-3 lead. Jackson had drawn a one-out walk and advanced to third on Gunnar Henderson’s single before scoring the winning run.
San Diego starter Dylan Cease worked four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out seven. Baltimore countered with five pitchers combining on three runs and one earned run. Keegan Akin secured his fourth save by retiring the side in order in the ninth inning.
Jeremiah Jackson also provided an earlier run with a solo home run in the fifth inning off Padres reliever Adrian Morejón, giving Baltimore a temporary 3-2 lead. Samuel Basallo contributed a two-run double in the second inning, opening the scoring when he drove in both Gunnar Henderson and Cedric Mullins. San Diego responded with RBI singles from Luis Arraez and Ramón Laureano, but could not capitalize after Adam’s exit.
The Orioles improve to 62-76 overall and will send right-hander Tyler Wells to the mound on Tuesday night. The Padres, now 76-62, will counter with right-hander Joe Musgrove as they look to bounce back in the series finale.
