Trader Joe’s Stores Remain Open for Labor Day Observance

NEW YORK, Sept. 1, 2025 - Trader Joe’s will welcome customers across the U.S. today, operating during its regular business hours on Labor Day, a spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. While most federal offices and banks pause services for the holiday, the specialty grocer is keeping its doors open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at locations that typically maintain those hours.
Shoppers planning last-minute barbecues or holiday gatherings can visit any of the chain’s more than 600 stores nationwide. According to Trader Joe’s policy, the only holidays on which the retailer fully closes are New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day; on Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve, stores close early.
In recognition of the holiday, employees working today will receive an additional premium of $10 per hour, a benefit the company extends to staff who work on Sundays or designated holidays. Customers are advised to verify specific hours with their local store before visiting, as some locations may vary or may not sell alcohol.
Despite the federal holiday, major grocery chains including Kroger, Stop & Shop, Wegmans, and Whole Foods are also open, though hours may differ by region. With summer winding down, Labor Day remains one of the busiest shopping days for groceries, and Trader Joe’s expects steady foot traffic throughout the day.
