Amazon to End Prime Invitee Free Shipping Sharing

NEW YORK - On September 2, Amazon announced it will discontinue its Prime Invitee program on October 1, 2025, putting an end to the decade-long feature that allowed Prime members to share free two-day shipping with individuals outside their household. The company updated its customer service page and confirmed that existing invitees will receive direct email notifications by September 5 explaining the change.

Under the revised policy, Prime members can only share benefits through Amazon Family, which permits sharing free shipping and other perks with one additional adult and up to four children and teenagers-all of whom must reside at the same primary address. Invitees living at different addresses will be required to subscribe to Prime independently, with a promotional rate of $14.99 for the first year, followed by the regular monthly fee thereafter.

The move coincides with reports that Prime membership sign-ups have fallen short of targets despite record sales during the extended Prime Day event in July. Amazon affirmed that its Prime membership base continues to grow globally and noted that it is investing heavily in its logistics network to expand faster delivery services to more than 4,000 small cities and towns across the United States by the end of the year.

Amazon’s transition away from the Prime Invitee program aligns with broader industry trends toward tightening subscription sharing and encourages individual membership growth. Affected users have been offered discounted subscription rates to ensure uninterrupted access to Prime’s core benefits.
