Northwestern University Professor Nina Kraus Reported Missing, Search Continues

Evanston, Ill., September 2, 2025 - Northwestern University officials and local authorities are appealing to the community for assistance in locating 72-year-old Professor Nina Kraus, who was reported missing after leaving her Evanston residence for a morning walk on Monday, September 1.
Professor Kraus, a distinguished neurobiology and otolaryngology scholar in the School of Communication, was last seen at approximately 9 a.m. departing her home on the 1500 block of Ashland Avenue. She was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with long silver hair and a “very fit” appearance. At the time, she was wearing long pants and a windbreaker and had not taken her phone with her.
The Evanston Police Department, with support from Northwestern University Police, has conducted ground searches in natural areas around Evanston-including parks and the lakefront-and deployed drones to aid in the effort. Commander Ryan Glew confirmed that tips are being followed up but emphasized that “no foul play is suspected.”
In a statement released Tuesday, Northwestern University President Michael Schill said, “The University is hopeful that with the community’s help, we can find Professor Kraus and assure her safety.” Anyone with information regarding Professor Kraus’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000.
