OpenAI to Acquire Statsig for $1.1 Billion; CEO Vijaye Raji Named CTO of Applications

September 2, 2025 - OpenAI announced today that it will acquire product-testing startup Statsig in an all-stock transaction valuing the company at approximately $1.1 billion. As part of the deal, Statsig’s founder and chief executive officer, Vijaye Raji, will join OpenAI as its chief technology officer of Applications, overseeing product engineering for ChatGPT, Codex, and future consumer and business tools.

The acquisition reflects OpenAI’s strategy to accelerate experimentation across its Applications division amid intensifying competition in artificial intelligence. OpenAI, currently valued at $300 billion, said combining its resources with Statsig’s feature-flagging and A/B testing platform will enhance its ability to iterate rapidly and deploy new features safely.

Statsig, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, offers developers an integrated suite of tools for experimentation, real-time decisioning, and analytics. The platform has been used internally by OpenAI and other major technology companies to measure the impact of new features before full rollout.

Under the terms of the agreement, Statsig employees will become OpenAI employees but will continue operating independently from their Seattle office until further integration plans are finalized. OpenAI emphasized a measured approach to maintaining service continuity for existing Statsig customers throughout the transition.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to close in the coming months.
