Trump Holds Oval Office Press Conference, Announces Space Command Relocation and Addresses Key Issues

Washington, D.C., September 2, 2025 - President Donald J. Trump returned to the podium in the Oval Office at 2:00 p.m. ET today for his first press conference in a week, unveiling several major initiatives and weighing in on health, trade, and public safety.
In his opening remarks, the President announced that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will be relocated from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, reversing a 2023 decision by the Biden administration and citing a projected savings of $426 million on the move. He also hinted at a potential renaming of the Department of Defense to better reflect its evolving mission in space.
Turning to trade policy, Trump warned that a recent federal appeals court ruling threatening to nullify his global tariffs constituted a “catastrophe,” and declared that he had convened an emergency meeting for Wednesday to discuss next steps in preserving his tariff leverage. He reiterated his commitment to using trade measures as “immense negotiating leverage” to protect American industries.
Addressing mounting questions about his health after a week out of public view, the President brushed aside speculation over a recurrent bruise on the back of his right hand, joking that it was the result of too much hand-shaking and aspirin use rather than any serious condition. At one point, a flash of dark bruising on his hand was visible as he answered reporters’ questions without covering it.
Trump also touched on domestic concerns, declaring Washington, D.C., “now crime-free” thanks to his deployment of the National Guard, while contrasting it with what he called the “murder capital” in Chicago, where he threatened federal intervention earlier this week. He announced that longtime ally Rudy Giuliani would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, praising Giuliani’s “unwavering service” to the nation.
The press conference concluded with the President fielding questions on vaccine efficacy data, trade relations with India, and the upcoming midterm funding bill, as Congress reconvened today with a looming September 30 deadline to avert a government shutdown.
