Trump’s Oval Office Address: Space Command Relocation and Drug Boat Strike

Washington, September 2, 2025 - President Donald J. Trump delivered a wide-ranging speech from the Oval Office on Tuesday afternoon, announcing the relocation of U.S. Space Command headquarters and reporting the interception of a drug-laden vessel, while dismissing rumors about his health.
In remarks at 2:00 p.m. ET, Trump declared that U.S. Space Command would move its permanent headquarters from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama-a reversal of the Biden administration’s 2023 decision to retain the command in Colorado. “Forever to be known from this point forward as Rocket City,” the president said, describing Huntsville as uniquely positioned to support a $175 billion missile-defense “Golden Dome” initiative.
Trump also said U.S. forces had “shot out a boat…a drug-carrying boat” that departed Venezuela, seizing “lots of drugs in that boat” as part of an intensified maritime campaign against Latin American cartels.
Turning to speculation about his health after a brief period of public silence, Trump told reporters the rumors were “quite absurd” and insisted he’d remained “very active” over the Labor Day weekend. He referred to social-media posts suggesting he was unwell as “fake,” noting that he had conducted successful press conferences recently and enjoyed rounds of golf at his Virginia club.
The president also addressed a recent federal court ruling invalidating most of his 2023 tariffs, warning that a Supreme Court decision against him could force the repayment of “trillions and trillions of dollars” to trading partners. He announced plans to appeal and seek an expedited ruling.
Looking abroad, Trump dismissed any notion that China’s upcoming military parade represents a challenge to the U.S., stating, “China relies on us far more than we do on them. No, I don’t view it that way at all”.
The address marked Trump’s first full Oval Office speech in a week and underscored his administration’s focus on defense realignment, anti-drug operations, and trade policy as he embarks on his second term.
