Senator Cory Booker Announces Engagement to Alexis Lewis

TRENTON, N.J., Sept. 3, 2025 (AP) - New Jersey Senator Cory Booker announced his engagement to girlfriend Alexis Lewis in an Instagram post featuring photos of the couple adorned with leis on a Hawaiian beach.

Booker, 56, shared five images that captured the moment he dropped to one knee, Lewis’s radiant smile as she displayed her new engagement ring, and the pair embracing amid a traditional Hawaiian greeting ceremony. “I am relishing the soul-nourishing beauty of daily life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée,” Booker wrote. “We are thrilled about the journey ahead, enjoying ourselves immensely, and feeling profoundly thankful for the love, encouragement, and energy that so many of you have extended to us”.

An alumna of New York University with an MBA from Cornell University, Lewis serves as president of investments at Brasa Capital Management and previously worked in economic development for the City of Los Angeles, according to her professional biography. Booker and Lewis have been together for approximately 16 months and reside in Washington, D.C., having met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend in May 2024.

Booker, a former Democratic presidential candidate and Newark mayor, first took office in the U.S. Senate in 2013 and is seeking re-election in 2026. Earlier this year, he delivered a 25-hour Senate speech criticizing the Trump administration, prompting speculation about a possible 2028 presidential bid. Since moving in together, the couple has maintained a relatively private relationship, though Booker has acknowledged the challenges of dating in the public eye and praised Lewis for grounding him amid his political career.

Social media users quickly noted Lewis’s resemblance to Booker’s former partner, actress Rosario Dawson, sparking a flurry of comments joking that the two could be sisters. Dawson herself congratulated the couple, writing “Love Love! Congratulations you two!” on Booker’s Instagram announcement.
